U-17 Women’s World Cup: Cameroon name 23-player squad

Coach Stephane Ndzana has named his 23-player Cameroon squad for the 2018 U-17 Women’s World Cup next month.

Ndzana’s charges  arrived in Sao Paulo Brazil on Monday, 22 October, for the last leg of preparations

They will play two build-up friendlies in Brazil: against Corinthian Women’s FC (U-20) and fellow World Cup-bound Brazil U-17 WNT.

The Les Lionnes squad features six players who played in Cameroon’s debut U-17 WWC in 2016.

Natacha Elam, Michelle Moumazim, Moussa Zouairatou and Claudia Voulania who played in defence in 2016 make a return.

They are joined by Viviane Mefire and Cameroon’s joint-topscorer in the African U-17 WWC qualifiers Alice Kameni.

Kameni netted five goals in the qualifiers including the vital goal against Nigeria in the final round of the qualifiers.

The goal handed Cameroon the win on away goals, shattering Nigeria’s historic streak of qualifying for every Women’s World Cup at all levels.

Cameroon play USA in their Group C opener on 14 November, before facing Germany (17 November) and holders North Korea (21 November).

This year’s U-17 WWC, the sixth edition of the global showpiece, will be held in Uruguay on 13 November to 1 December.

  1. Hello, they have six players who featured in 2016 in the squad, then in 2018 they must be 18 years of age so they are disqualified. So why are they being featured in the squad?
